Around late March and April, when the season is dwindling down to it’s last weeks, everybody is talking about Playoff seeding and Awards. In order for teams to promote their players for certain awards that are linked to them, teams, send out promotional campaigns that vary from creative to size, but generally, talk about how great the candidate is. Steve Kerr, doesn’t like it at all, and really thinks it’s a waste of time and effort:
According to CSNSports Bay Area:
“Seriously, like I’m going to change my mind because somebody sent me some little (thing) that’s just going into the landfill and is bad for the environment. If the NBA is really into Green Week, they should ban MVP and all other award promotion.”
Let’s think about it for a minute. Promotional campaigns are indeed useless, especially if your voters are the media. You can’t be a voter for the MVP, ROY, and all other awards, if you aren’t apart of the media, and if you are apart of the media, you are probably analyzing these guys every second of the day. Promotion comes to no use at that point, other then to say that your team backs you up, which is a given. Kerr gets my approval on this.
Kerr wasn’t the only one who has mentioned the campaigns before, Popovich and many other coaches like it have said it’s kind of like propoganda. I think the only reason Kerr is willing to ban promotion of awards is because in his mind the clear MVP is Stephen Curry.
