Not only the leader of the best team in the NBA, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has always voiced his opinions on varying social issues.
After the tragic and unfortunate recent high school shooting in Parkland, Florida that took place mere weeks ago, the controversial issue of gun control has once again reared its ugly head.
Gun violence is an issue that hits awfully close to home for Steve Kerr, as he lost his father to gunmen over 20 years ago. With an upcoming Silicon Valley town-hall meeting scheduled to address gun violence, Kerr decided that he would participate. Following from NBC Bay Area’s Raj Mathai:
CONFIRMED: #Warriors coach @SteveKerr will join Silicon Valley Congressman @RoKhanna for student town hall on gun violence at Newark Memorial High School on Monday (20 miles south of Oakland). Kerr is outspoken advocate for #GunControl. His dad was killed by gunmen in 1984. #NBA

Kerr has been known in the past to shed light on various social issues and his stance on the country’s current administration is well-known. Having a popular figure such as Kerr speak out publicly in a town-hall meeting setting could help push the agenda towards gun control.
Steve Kerr called for stricter gun control laws following last year’s Las Vegas shooting and this time around he has decided to take some action. With more and more attention being brought to this problematic issue, hopefully some action is taken before numerous other innocent lives are taken.
