The Warriors have been incredible this season, and one of the most impressive aspects of their dominance is that they’re doing it without last year’s runner-up Coach of the Year Steve Kerr. Kerr has been unable to coach since he underwent back surgery, and after complications on that surgery, he has missed more time than he was expected to.
Kerr will return to the sideline this season, that much is clear. But when? A couple months back, a player on the Warriors reportedly said that Kerr may not return until after the All-Star Break. It sounds like Kerr is likely to return much sooner than that though — perhaps this weekend. From ESPN’s Tim MacMahon:
“It’s obviously a possibility,” interim coach Luke Walton said of Kerr’s potential return to the bench this weekend. “He hasn’t said he’s going to. To be honest, I don’t think he knows yet. I think that’s part of why he’s on this road trip, to see how his body handles the travel and getting into Houston at 1 a.m. tonight to turn around and play again then get on another plane and fly home and get in late again. So that’s part of why he’s here on this trip, whether or not this weekend is a realistic return or not.”
After the Warriors’ win over James Harden and the Houston Rockets without Stephen Curry, they sit at 30-2. They’re obviously doing pretty(extremely) well without Kerr, so really there’s no need to rush him back. Take your time, Steve.
