The Golden State Warriors’ second-year and championship-winning head coach, Steve Kerr, will be limited throughout training camp in October, according to ESPN. Kerr had two back surgeries in the summer to address a herniated disk. He has had complications as a result of the original surgery and as such, he has not yet completely healed. Kerr shed some light on the difficulties of the injury:
Well, to be honest, the last couple months have stunk for me. I’m not kidding. I’ve had a rough go physically this summer. Two back surgeries, and it has not been fun. It wasn’t the summer I was envisioning after winning the title, thinking, ‘This is the greatest thing ever.’
While he will still likely be around the team, the bulk of the coaching work during camp will fall on assistants Luke Walton and Jarron Collins. That may deal a slight blow to the reigning champs as they continue to learn to adapt to the few roster changes made this summer. However, the Warriors were touted as having one of the best coaching staffs, top to bottom, in the entire league last season. Even with Alvin Gentry gone to coach the New Orleans Pelicans, the assistants should be able to keep the ship afloat until Kerr can return to the sidelines.
