Steve Kerr made some reporter’s heads turn following the Warriors win against the Grizzlies Friday night. Kerr was asked by one reporter who he thinks should win this years MVP award. Of course he’s going to say his star guard Stephen Curry right? That’s what everyone was thinking so why even ask that question?
Kerr, however, threw a curveball and went in the other direction.
From Michael Wallace of ESPN.com:
“For the record,” Kerr answered with a blank expression, “I would vote for Russell Westbrook.”
All within earshot froze. Faces frowned. Necks jerked. Kerr quickly ended the madness before anyone could think to check if anyone had spiked the barbecue sauce on the Warriors’ postgame meal spread. The prankster was in full postseason form.
“Didn’t somebody else just say that?” Kerr said as he lobbed the wisecrack that shattered the silence with laughter. “I’m just kidding. Make sure the sarcasm is noted.”
Kerr is clearly trolling and should win Coach of the Year just for it. He also might be trolling Kevin Love, after the Cavs big man said that he thinks Westbrook should get the MVP over his teammate Lebron James.
Either way, Kerr’s sarcasm is awesome and it’s great to see coaches have fun and mess around. It makes things way more interesting than seeing a guy like Bill Belichick put fans and the media to sleep. Keep doing you Steve!
