Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr announced he’d be out indefinitely after game 3 of the Warriors first round matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers. Since then, Assistant head coach Mike Brown has taken over as coach in Kerr’s absence.
Although Kerr has been absent from the Warriors sideline, he has made appearances at practices and even made a few halftime speeches. Now that the NBA Finals is closely approaching, the status of Kerr possibly being able to coach again has been up in the air.
However, today Kerr shed some light on his availability for Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
Following from Chris Haynes of ESPN.
“As of right now, I will not coach Thursday night,” Kerr said after practice on Monday. “It’s still up in the air.”
“I’m ready, but I’m not ready to coach yet,” he said. “I’m still feeling a lot of the effects of what I’ve got going on.”
Kerr also made it a point of emphasis to point out how good of a job Brown has done under these circumstances.
“I’m taking part in practices, helping with the messaging, taking part in coaching meetings, but I’m not on the sidelines during games. So, he has to make those [in-game] decisions,” Kerr said. “It’s his team, but he’s also taking my advice and counsel from behind the scenes. It’s not easy, but he’s obviously doing a good job. There seems to be a theme when I’m out. I think the team is like 108 and 2. So, I’m not sure what it is.”
