Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has not been on the sidelines for most of this postseason. A complication stemming from back surgery that also left Kerr away from the team to start last season’s campaign once again has left the successful coach away from the game.
All the details we have about Kerr’s injury is that it leaves him in immense discomfort from pain, nausea, and headaches. After the second instance of Kerr needing time off, it was no surprise then that many speculated he would never coach again.
However, that is not Kerr’s plan at all. In an exclusive interview with Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News, Kerr reaffirmed that he plans on continuing his young coaching career:
-Q: I’ll ask you now: Can you say that you definitely will coach again at some point?
-KERR: Hell yeah. You know, it’s a little trickier, since this has been going on. I sort of assumed all last year that by the summer I’d get this thing knocked out.
It’s been kind of a mystery and that’s what so frustrating. But I have every intention to coach for a long time. It’s scary stuff and still hoping for a better resolution to it.
Kerr also mentioned that he is feeling much better and could assume head coaching duties for the Finals if he feels well enough to do so, although it seems unlikely at this time that he will.
This is altogether good news. Kerr is by all accounts one of the best people in the NBA. Hopefully, he can make a full recovery and get back to doing what he loves whether it’s this season or in the future.
