The Golden State Warriors are off to another hot start for the third season in a row led by head coach Steve Kerr. The Dubs have a new star on the squad in Kevin Durant, but their system under Kerr has not changed much, and the success has come with it. For the third year in a row, the Warriors are at the top in the NBA’s Western Conference heading into the NBA All-Star break.
With the Warriors, success comes with some significant recognition as well. Two of his stars, Durant and reigning NBA MVP Stephen Curry, will be starters in the 2017 NBA All-Star game and two other starters, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, have a shot at making the squad as well. But leading the Western Conference All-Star team will be Steve Kerr and his Warriors coaching staff.
The Warriors made the announcement official.
Golden State Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr and his staff will coach the Western Conference in the 2017 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, Feb. 19, in New Orleans by clinching the best record in the Western Conference through games played Feb. 5, the NBA announced today. Kerr’s staff consists of Ron Adams, Mike Brown, Jarron Collins, Chris DeMarco, Bruce Fraser and Willie Green.
By virtue of the Houston Rockets’ 127-114 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks tonight, the Warriors clinched the best record in the Western Conference through games played on Feb. 5 among the 14 conference teams with a head coach eligible to participate in the 2017 All-Star Game. The San Antonio Spurs’ Gregg Popovich is ineligible for the honor because he coached the West in last year’s All-Star Game.
