Carson Palmer announced that he’s returning but he will turn 38 during the midst of the 2017 season. With no long-term plan to replace him, G.M. Steve Keim said via the team’s official website that the Cardinals will be looking for another quarterback this offseason regardless of the status of Palmer.
“There’s no doubt every G.M., there is no question your name has to be put on a young quarterback at some point,” Keim said, via the team’s website. “I challenge myself every day, because if you look around the league, you’re not a G.M. for long if you don’t find [a quarterback]. I have to do a better job, with my staff and the coaching staff, we have to identify the right guy and put this organization in position to have success for years to come.”
Arizona is known to have high interest in Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson but they may need to trade up in the draft to take him. Drew Stanton is a capable backup but he is no means a long-term solution. In my latest mock draft, I had the Cardinals taking O.J. Howard but they could easily select a quarterback in that slot.
