Steve Blake may be closer to the end than the beginning and he probably knows that. So why not take advantage of a situation that can benefit you in your future? Blake hasn’t made a big difference on an NBA team since 2014 and he’s been a west coast journeyman for the majority of his career.
The one thing Blake does bring to a team is some veteran leadership and he can shoot the three-ball well. Besides that, it’s a struggle to pick one reason to play Blake any heavy minutes. Despite the decline in his career, Blake will be returning to the Blazers next season to make his money.

He’s 35 and if he doesn’t perform next season, it might be a wrap for Blake’s career in the NBA. His minutes and games played have declined with his last 3 stints on the Blazers, Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors.
One thing is good about Blake, he’s on a cheap veteran contract. His deal is only $2.1 million and he could just keep trying to provide some leadership for young players and hit situational three’s as his career ends.
