The Los Angeles Clippers have shared STAPLES Center with the Lakers and Kings for years, now. However, that time may be somewhat close to an end.
The Clippers’ lease at STAPLES ends in 2024. At that time, the team may move out of their longtime home.
A report several months ago claimed that the Clippers are already looking at potential new arenas in the Los Angeles area. That wasn’t completely shocking news as there had been rumblings beforehand.
Now, team owner Steve Ballmer is confirming that report, via Dan Woike of the Orange County Register:
Ballmer confirms Clippers are exploring possibility of a new arena once their lease ends with Staples Center.

No surprise here. The Clippers are doing their due diligence in case they are unable to come to terms to stay in STAPLES Center. Additionally, this allows them to hold some leverage in order to reach a more favorable deal.
Regardless, 2024 is a very, very long time away. Steve Ballmer should and will explore possibilities for a new arena. The future of the team itself is under heavy questions. Any major speculation taken away from this confirmation should be taken with a grain of salt. They are just premature rumors at this point in time.
