Stephen Jackson hasn’t played in the NBA since the 2014 season, so you would think he is retired. The Golden State Warriors also assume he is, and want to hire him as their coach according to ESPN’s Marc Stein. Also according to Stein, Jackson doesn’t want to coach, but wants to retire to the league and play:
I’m told Golden State has shown interest in Stephen Jackson in a coaching role . But Jackson, 38, hopes to make a PLAYING return next season

According to Stein, Jackson doesn’t want to coach because he has been working out so that he can return to the league and play:
Steve Kerr and Stephen Jackson were teammates on the Spurs’ 2003 title team, but Captain Jack has been working toward an on-court comeback.

Jackson scored just 15 points and averaged 1 PPG in his final season with the Los Angeles Clippers, so it looks unlikely that he will play. If he does sign a players contract, he will not get many minutes at all. Jackson was a solid player throughout his career, but in his old age he was a role player at best. If he signed with the Warriors as a player, he would be a veteran player to help teach players, and not much else.
