Much has been said about the coaching done by Byron Scott this season. With his Los Angeles Lakers having accumulated a dismal 8-28 record so far, there is not much to be said for on-court success. More importantly, Scott has not taken kindly to developing a nice young core of players on the team, often feuding with them or shaming them in public.
That problem seems to not be a one-time thing as Stephen Jackson eloquently put in a video created by 120 Sports:
“D’Angelo Russell and [Julius] Randle, do not pay attention to that man. I made the rookie all-star game at the end of the break and after the break he did not play me no more. He is the worst communicator for young guys. I would not advise the young players to even listen to Byron Scott because he is the worst coach at communicating with guys and I’m living proof.”
Well, Jackson certainly did not want to hold back. The former small forward played under Scott for just one year with the New Jersey Nets and it seems like he did not enjoy the experience.
The interesting thing to note here is that the issues that Jackson speaks about are things that are still plaguing the Lakers under his leadership. The Lakers young players have expressed their dismay with both a lack of playing time and a lack of communication in how they could earn those minutes. According to Jackson, that was a problem with him and even fellow rookie and top pick, Kenyon Martin.
Jackson continued to speak about Scott’s inability to coach in the present as his old-school mentality has affected his handling of a young team. The criticisms presented by Jackson seems to be fair in more ways than one. Seeing them presented by a veteran who played under him for a year is more telling than anything else. There is probably a high chance that there are multiple people who have played under Scott who feel the same way. Stephen Jackson was just ready to spill the beans, no problem.
