Stephen Jackson may have deleted the offending tweet, but in the cyber world nothing is ever really gone forever. Jackson’s tweet directed at Oklahoma’s Serge Ibaka has earned him a $25,000 fine from the NBA for a “hostile comment.” Jackson – who proudly tells people he really lives what he raps about – apologized for the tweet to fans, the league and to Ibaka himself, but it was too little, too late, for the Spurs forward.
“I apologize to Serge Ibaka, the NBA, and to all my fans for the comments I made,” Jackson tweeted. “It was unprofessional and childish. I’m not a thug just a man who speaks his mind. It was not appropriate. I do apologize. Only a man can admit when he’s wrong.”
San Antonio GM RC Buford condemned Jackson’s tweet, saying that it was a poor reflection on the Spurs franchise.
“The recent public comments made by Stephen Jackson are absolutely unacceptable, cannot be tolerated and do not reflect the standards held by the San Antonio Spurs,” Spurs general manager RC Buford said Sunday night in an emailed statement, The Associated Press reported.
