Stephen Curry is undoubtedly one of the most feared players in the NBA. With two MVPs, one being the first unanimous MVP ever, three rings and six all-league awards, the Baby-Faced Assassin is far from finished.
In an interview with Alex Squadron from Slam magazine, Curry discussed his desire to bring one more championship to the city of Oakland before the team’s departure to the newly built Chase Center in San Fransico.
“Going into a season with what we have on our team, a championship is what you focus on. But this year, it makes it a little bit more focused and more special in terms of understanding what is at stake,” he says. “Trying to win three in a row and this is our last season in Oakland, playing in front of the fans there at Oracle Arena.”
The 2018-19 NBA season is the final season the Golden State Warriors will ever play at Oracle Arena. The team has been playing in the arena since the 1971–72 season, bringing four championships to the city of Oakland, three of which Curry has been a part of.
Before his left groin injury, Stephen Curry was having his best season yet. Averaging 29.5 points, 6.1 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting 51.5 percent from the field, 43.8 percent from the 3-point line and 92.3 percent from the free-throw line. Making this season his second 50-40-90 year, with better shooting percentages than his 2015-16 unanimous MVP season.
The unanimous MVP is likely to return to action on Thursday against the Toronto Raptors at Scotiabank Arena according to the Athletic’s Anthony Slater.
Steve Kerr said Steph Curry should be “a full go” for the Warriors practice tomorrow. That would seem to put him in line for possible Thursday return in Toronto.
