Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has signed a multi-year contract with Sony Pictures, according to Hollywood Reporter. The deal technically is for Curry’s newly formed production company Unanimous Media and extends to gaming and virtual reality as well as television and movies.
“I’ve been blessed to have this platform and I want to use it to affect the world positively,” Curry said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “Partnering with Sony to share inspiring content with a global audience was a foregone conclusion.”
“Steph is a transcendent figure in current culture. His wide-ranging content creation interests overlap well with our varied businesses and we have been equally impressed with his team,” Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group chairman Tom Rothman said in a statement. “We are honored to have been drafted and now we know how lucky Golden State feels every day.”
The Hollywood Reporter adds that the content being produced will be faith-based, family friendly projects. And, yes, sports projects are on the table as well.
Curry signed the richest contract in NBA history last season, right after winning his second NBA Championnship. Curry also has endorsement deals with companies such as Under Armor and JPMorgan Chase that dish out $35 million annually.
