“Obviously, walking in the locker room, it’ll be good memories,” Curry said Sunday to reporters. “Hopefully, it still smells a little bit like champagne.”
Stephen Curry told that to reporters, according to Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com ahead of the Golden State Warriors matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Martin Luther King day. After Christmas Day and Opening Night, Martin Luther King Day is probably the third biggest day for the NBA with games running all day. The highlight of the day, just as it was this past Christmas Day, is the contest between the Warriors and Cavaliers. The Warriors took the first meeting of the season at home but now as they travel to Cleveland for the first time since game 6 of the NBA Finals, the Warriors of course have memories that resonate with them in that city and in that visitor’s locker room. Memories that the Cavs don’t want the Warriors to have anymore.
Curry’s hope of a Champagne scent in the visitor’s locker room didn’t sit well with members of the Cleveland Cavaliers, also according to Haynes.
Sources are telling cleveland.com that members of the Cavaliers have taken exception to the quote and viewed it as “disrespectful.”
When LeBron James finished up his media address after shootaround this morning, he walked away asking reporters why no one asked him about Curry’s comments. He said he had an answer for it.
Now we’ll have to wait after tonight’s game to get his response — that is, if he chooses to share it then.
Stephen Curry took to twitter on Sunday shortly after the quote, as expected, was doctored and cropped to grab headlines and make it appear like the young, soft spoken MVP was taking shots at the Cavaliers.
