Warriors guard Stephen Curry still hasn’t gotten over the 2016 Finals loss, in case for some reason you believed he eventually would.
In a recent interview with SportsCenter, Curry blamed himself for the Warriors’ Finals loss, mentioning how his underwhelming performance was part of the reason why the Warriors succumbed to Cleveland in seven games and how he took responsibility for not performing at the level he expects himself to play at.
“I haven’t gotten over it at all”, Curry said in the video. “It’s something that’ll live with you forever”.
The vast majority of fans expected to see Golden State repeat as champions last season, but that dream was ultimately crushed by LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Warriors, who finished the regular season with the greatest regular season record of all time at 73-9, had taken a 3-1 series lead at one point. They managed to drop three straight games in a row, the first time in over a year.
Disappointment, shock, and disbelief began to settle in, as Golden State was finally beaten.
What was arguably more surprising was Stephen Curry’s performance. Averaging a career-high 30.1 points on 50% shooting from the field per game during the regular season, Curry was voted the unanimous 2016 Most Valuable Player.
In the Finals matched up against Kyrie Irving, Iman Shumpert, LeBron James and company, Curry’s numbers plummeted. He averaged 22.6 points on 40% shooting in the championship series.
Curry is now looking forward to the future, and as he stated in the video, will use this as motivation to come back stronger than ever next season.
