Stephen Curry’s talent on the basketball court is unparallel and his ability to hit 3’s is not comparable to any other player in the NBA. Now, the NBA Champion will be testing his skills in Hollywood.
Earlier this year, the Golden State Warriors guard announced the creation of his own media company ‘Unanimous Media’ and later developed a deal with Sony to develop many projects including this one ‘Breakthrough’. The movie started production earlier this year and Steph and his company have jumped in to help produce.
The movie is set for an April 12th, 2019 release and will star This Is Us actress Chrissy Metz and Topher Grace. Here is the story synopsis (Via THR):
Based on a book by Joyce Smith titled The Impossible, Breakthrough tells the true story of how Joyce’s son, John Smith, fell through the ice and drowned, and was declared legally dead. An hour later, however, the basketball-loving 14-year-old was miraculously revived through the power of prayer.
You could see why Stephen Curry wants to get involved. Curry spoke to THR saying “John’s story is nothing short of incredible. It’s a story about the power of prayer and perseverance and one I immediately connected to. After reading the script, I knew I wanted to be a part of bringing it to life onscreen.”
Along with helping with the marketing campaign leading up to its release, Curry and his team also helped secure rights to certain scenes as well as offer advice on some of the basketball elements of the movie. Good on Steph to explore other avenues to grow himself as a business.
