Pour one out S.W.A.T. fans. Many fans of CBS’ popular police drama worried that series stalwart Stephanie Sigman would be exiting the show and Thursday those fears were realized. Sigman took to Twitter (and Instagram) following the season 3 premiere of S.W.A.T. to confirm her departure from the series.

Sigman’s character Captain Cortez wasn’t present on-screen during the premiere, prompting many fans to assumed she’d been written out. Apparently, things ended on a happy note though as S.W.A.T. writer Shawn Ryan piggybacked off Sigman’s Tweet to signal his gratitude to the actress and wish her all the best moving forward.
Much thanks to @SigmanStephanie for her tremendous work on S.W.A.T. It was a pleasure to write for her & see what she did with the role each week. Stephanie's an extremely talented actress. I look forward to seeing what she conquers next professionally. We'll be rooting for her. https://t.co/KSveLTcPAF

Following her departure, many fans are lamenting Sigman’s absence on the show. One fan shared her own sentiments about why the role was so important to her on Twitter. “Can’t believe Cortez is gone! It was so refreshing to see a Latina play a [woman] in leadership! Loved your role.” Sigman actually responded to this fan though in another Tweet as part of her farewell.
I know ! But we’ll keep seeing that happening. That won’t stop. The industry is evolving and I’m sure it’ll become more and more inclusive, with important, strong & diverse stories to tell ? and more female roles !! Yes ?? https://t.co/DMKnhrU1Nc

There are no announced plans for Sigman’s Cortez beyond S.W.A.T. but her original message to fans leaves the door open for future appearances or even a possible spin-off.
S.W.A.T. airs Wednesdays at 10/9C on CBS.
