Steph Curry does not have much to prove. Fresh off of winning the Most Valuable Player award en route to leading his Golden State Warriors to 67 regular season wins and an NBA championship, the star point guard has made his mark on the league, proving that he is one of the best players in the NBA right now.
That’s why it was somewhat surprising to hear Ty Lawson say that Curry had coasted through the playoffs. The new Houston Rocket put his new-found sense of being on a winning team to use in declaring that no one made Curry work throughout the playoffs, allowing him to stay fresh on the offensive end. That statement may have some truth to it; nevertheless, it is odd to hear it from a player who has not even been in the playoffs since 2013.
For his part, Curry could only laugh when asked about the comments (via the San Francisco Chronicle)
Curry’s first public response to Lawson’s comments was more of a reaction than a quote. After Saturday’s practice, the Warriors’ point guard initially looked down and laughed. Finally, he offered: “It’s funny. That’s all I’ve got to say. It’s funny.”
Short and sweet from the MVP.
