Now just a little over a year after their first private launch, Eli and Adam have officially found some well deserved funding from some big names.
Following from an official Statmuse press release.
StatMuse Inc., an interactive sports media platform powered by natural language search, today announced a $10 million Series A investment with participation from Techstars, The Walt Disney Company (through a subsidiary), Allen & Company, Greycroft Partners, Promus Ventures, Haas Portman, Deep Fork Capital, and Bee Partners.
In addition, the investment round included notable sports media figures such as former NBA commissioner David Stern and United Talent Agency.
StatMuse was founded by childhood friends and former high school basketball co-captains Eli Dawson (CEO) and Adam Elmore (CTO). They launched a private beta in the fall of 2014 to instant fanfare with the initial demo video reaching over 120 countries in the first 48 hours.
“We built a product for fellow sports fans interested in statistics and visual media. StatMuse is our vision for a highly engaging media platform that fuels sports discussion anywhere in the world,” Dawson said.
In 2015, StatMuse was one of 10 companies selected to participate in the prestigious Disney Accelerator program. The company launched a public beta in the fall and signed a content deal with ESPN to provide statistical content for the 2015-16 NBA season.
“StatMuse offers snackable content that can be crowdsourced, curated, and syndicated to serve every type of sports fan. Just look at the user reactions on social media — this is a product that sports fans love,“ said Mark Solon, Managing Partner at Techstars who has joined StatMuse’s Board of Directors in conjunction with the financing.
StatMuse plans to use the investment to expand into new sports and broaden the reach of its sports media and entertainment platform in 2016.
Former NBA commissioner David Stern added,
Sports is, by itself, the international language, but Statmuse has taken a giant leap forward, transforming sports statistics into meaningful, storytelling prose…
Statmuse is a fantastic website that allows even the most basic fan of the NBA to dive deep down a rabbit hole of analytics and stats. The website is easy to use, very user-friendly and provides content in a more hands-on and less cluttered way. The graphs are great and colorful, the stats are precise and the content is of utmost quality. The site is also planning to venture into more sports like football, baseball and hockey.
