Nearly a year ago today, the world burst into protest following the death of George Floyd. From multiple angles, Minneapolis residents documented how former Minneapolis Police Department Officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on Floyd for more than eight minutes. Month after month, demonstrators filled the street in search of justice and reform in honor of Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and so many others. Things ticked up even more when Daunte Wright was killed by former police officer Kim Potter in Minneapolis suburb Kim Potter. Today, things came to a climax as a jury reached a verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin.
A verdict has been reached in the trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin. The former police officer entered the trial facing second-degree manslaughter, second-degree murder and third-degree murder charges. As determined by a jury of his peers, Chauvin was found guilty of all three charges
In the immediate aftermath of this monumental verdict, a number of athletes, actors and musicians shared their reaction to the verdict.
A beginning.. a small grain of hope for our future.
