Not the most surprising news out there, but Arizona freshmen forward Stanley Johnson has officially declared for the NBA draft, forgoing his final three years of eligibility.
Johnson announced it at a last-minute press conference on Thursday evening.
“I put a hell of a lot of thought into coming back,” Johnson said. “For me, it took a lot of thought, but at the end of the day, you’ve got to make the right decision. I put a lot of hard thought into it. For me to do what I have to do, I thought this was the best decision.”
Johnson averaged 13.8 points and 6.5 rebounds in his lone season with the Wildcats. He’s a versatile player who can play shooting guard, but his natural position his small forward. Johnson led Arizona as a two seed in the NCAA Tournament, getting as far as the Elite Eight where they lost to Wisconsin.
The 6″7 swing man is projected to be one of the top ten picks in the draft, and currently number five on the Def Pen Mock Draft 2.0.
