The Detroit Pistons are at a pivotal time in the ‘Stan Van Gundy regime’. We know that he’s got Andre Drummond as his Dwight Howard. He’s got a couple good pieces around him including KCP, Reggie Jackson, Stanley Johnson and others.
But there’s one anomaly that SVG is struggling with. Brandon Jennings. When it comes to achilles injuries, you can’t be too careful. And as it turns out, Jennings probably won’t return until December. Which is very different from what Jennings said last month.
Whenever Jennings will return, SVG will need to put him somewhere and at this point in time, he’s stumped.
“That’s really hard to determine right now,” Van Gundy told WMGC-FM (105.1). “We don’t know where Brandon’s gonna be health-wise. Right now, he’s still recovering.”
“If he comes back and he’s the Brandon Jennings that we had last year, I think those guys can play together quite well,” Van Gundy said. “Reggie is big enough (6-feet-3) to guard guys off the ball and everything else. It just gives you two playmakers on the floor together. I think they can be pretty dynamic, but we’ll just have to see where Brandon is when he comes back.“
So it’s mainly about Reggie Jackson and his play, you may remember that there was a lot of speculation about how Jackson and Jennings would go together and I think we all still have that “mmm maybe, maybe not” feeling. And I rate Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, if he gets his game up, what will happen then? Jennings might have to speak up if he wants to keep his place.
