Stan Van Gundy is not one to shy away from anything. The often outspoken head coach for the Detroit Pistons doesn’t hold back, especially when it comes to his squad and their performance. And as of late, their performance has been quite poor.
After the Pistons recent 15 point loss to the Indiana Pacers over the weekend, the team held a players-led meeting. According to reports, Aron Baynes, a member of the 2014 NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs, and Marcus Morris, led the charge for this gathering. It was supposed to be a place where the players just let go of their frustrations and talk about the issues on the team. After losing back-to-back games, something had to change as the Pistons went into the new year. Unfortunately for Detroit, a lot of the same issues returned on Monday night.
In a road contest against the Chicago Bulls, a team in the middle of a rut of their own, the Pistons were decimated and lost 113-82. At halftime, the Pistons trailed Chicago 69-34. It was pretty bad from the jump.
After Detroit suffered their third consecutive loss, their head coach Stan Van Gundy made a point to call out his team and just put them on blast. He didn’t even recognize their players-only meeting as anything worth mentioning.
For what it’s worth, Reggie Jackson did speak to the media after the game about the issues during the contest. Should the Pistons decide to make a move to push Reggie Jackson towards the bench? It’s worth considering.
