In a great ball night and great overall day in sports yesterday, (including the UFC taking multiple L’s in terms of business) a game with the Detroit Pistons at the New York Knicks flew under the radar a little.
Now every game that has the Detroit Pistons, Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls are significant because they’re all battling for that final Playoff position. While Jimmy Butler had a triumphant return against the Houston Rockets, the Pistons fell on their face, being handed an L by the woeful Knicks. Stan Van Gundy, rightly so, is not happy.
“We should all be disappointed; it was ridiculous,” Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said. “We were just terrible. We didn’t bring any energy to the game. We didn’t play well at either end. It was an embarrassing performance….
“They dominate us,” Van Gundy said. “We can’t play Arron Afflalo and Carmelo Anthony. We have nobody to play those two guys, and Robin Lopez always plays great against Andre.”
This is some legitimate honesty by the Pistons head coach there. And surprising because I’d think that KCP and Tobias Harris could take Afflalo and Morris could take Carmelo? That’s just me but I think Stan Van Gundy knows a little more than me.
And if they can’t take down the NY Knicks. How are they going to give the Cleveland Cavaliers a series?
