St. John’s guard Shamorie Ponds has declared for the 2019 NBA Draft and will hire an agent for the process. Ponds is expected to be a late first round pick and is expected to complete the draft process. This will mark the end of his NCAA career.
Ponds is forgoing a potential senior year to enter the 2019 NBA Draft. The guard is listed officially at 6’1″ and 175 pounds. His last game with the Red Storm was a loss in the 2019 NCAA Tournament First Four to the Arizona State Sun Devils. Shamorie Ponds averaged 19.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game in his junior season. His points and rebounds were slightly down while his assists were slightly up from his sophomore season.
St. John’s finds themselves without their talented guard next year and may struggle without him playing for the Red Storm. Ponds will enter the draft process and will work out for teams and at the NBA combine. The former Red Storm guard should be a late first round pick, but could potentially slip into the early second. Ponds will be hoping to improve his draft stock over the coming months. He is projected to go 30th overall in the third Def Pen Mock Draft.
