The San Antonio Spurs were bound to bounce back. They faced a Denver Nuggets team who has now lost 4 straight and they have been struggling ever since pulling off 5 straight wins. The game was definitely entertaining and close until the 4th quarter, where the San Antonio Spurs pulled out to a 14 point lead at one point of the quarter. The Nuggets tried to make a late run, but there was really no point as the Spurs won 109-99. Kawhi Leonard in his second game back, scored 17 points and added 15 rebounds while 5 other Spurs were in double figures, and they were scoring on all cylinders. The Denver Nuggets were lead by Kenneth Faried who scored 26 points and hauled down 14 rebounds, in the Nuggets loss.
Analysis: The San Antonio Spurs will be going through a stretch where they will be facing some sub-par (below or close to .500) teams and this will definitely bode well for the Spurs who have struggled as the the halfway mark of the season approaches. This run of games will help them regain some composure and gain some ground in the Western Conference. The San Antonio Spurs sit at 7th in the Western Conference which is far too low for a Gregg Popovich team and a championship team. What I’ve learned from the Spurs is that you can NEVER, EVER, EVER, count them out. Everybody knew that the Spurs would bounce back and this stretch of games would be the perfect time to do so.
