Coming into the Western Conference 2016 NBA Playoffs first round series between the second-seeded San Antonio Spurs and seventh-seeded Memphis Grizzlies, many people believed that the Spurs would run away with this series. Through the first two games of the matchup, San Antonio has done just that and then some.
In game one of the series, the Spurs held form at home easily handled the short-handed Grizzlies and in game two they did much of the same. Before the game, Kawhi Leonard was given his 2016 NBA Defensive Player of the Year award and The Klaw didn’t disappoint on Tuesday night.
Kawhi scored 13 points on the night on 4-10 shooting including a 5-5 night from the free throw line while he grabbed three rebounds and swiped two steals. Patty Mills led the way for the Spurs scoring 16 points coming off the bench shooting 5-8 from the field and LaMarcus Aldridge started, played 27 minutes, scored 10 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked four shots.
It was another big struggle to score for the Grizzlies. Memphis’ leading scorer was Tony Allen who came off the bench to drop 12 points and Zach Randolph led the starting unit scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
To some this series up in one stat, the Spurs have trailed the Grizzlies for a total of 25 seconds. The Spurs have a 2-0 series lead over the Grizzlies. The series heads to Memphis for at least the next two games with game 3 tipping off Friday at 9:30 p.m ET on ESPN.
