San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich became the ninth coach in NBA history to win 1,000 games over his career on Monday night when Marco Belinelli hit a shot in the above video to seal a 95-93 win over the Indiana Pacers.
Coach Pop is the third-fastest coach to achieve the milestone, getting there in 1,462 games. Phil Jackson was the fastest, reaching 1,000 wins in 1,423 games, followed by Pat Riley, who did it in 1,434 games. Popovich is also only the second coach to win at least 1,000 games with one team, joining Jerry Sloan, who did it with the Utah Jazz.
Popovich is undoubtedly one of the greatest coaches in NBA history, if not the greatest. He’s a five-time champion and he’s led a Spurs dynasty centered around his main components in his own big 3 in Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker, who have helped him be consistently successful for just about the last 20 years. He doesn’t this milestone to validate what he’s accomplished in his career But it’s still a nice accomplishment that i’m sure he’s very happy to get but he sure won’t show it in public to anyone.
