Spider-Man: No Way Home is the gift that keeps on giving under the Marvel Christmas tree. After soaring to the top of the box office charts during its first weekend in theaters, the film continues to find success in theaters in the United States and beyond. Variety reports that Spider-Man: No Way Home has earned more than $800 million at the box office worldwide. As a result, it has become the biggest box office success among American films this year. Overall, only The Battle at Lake Changjin and Hi, Mom are the only films to perform better. However, box office experts expect that Spider-Man: No Way Home will eventually become the first film of 2021 to earn $1 billion at the global box office.
“Exceeding $1 billion [in 2021] is a foregone conclusion at this point, barring any drastic turn of pandemic events,” Shawn Robbins of BoxOffice.com told CNBC.
“Considering how recently some doubted that the industry could see a performance on this scale anytime soon as the world grapples with Covid variants, vaccine distribution, and an assortment of market restrictions, it’s a remarkable achievement.”
Heading into the weekend, expect Spider-Man: No Way Home to be the biggest film for a second consecutive week. On Wednesday, the film reportedly brought in $27.8 million. In comparison, Matrix Resurrections brought in $6.5 million domestically and Sing 2 earned $8.1 million domestically.
