The Hofstra Pride and Head Coach Speedy Claxton have agreed to a multi-year contract extension. This comes after back-to-back successful seasons for the Head Coach and the Hofstra basketball program. The former NBA player was drafted by the 20th overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft out of his alma mater, the Hofstra Pride. He played in the NBA from 2000 to 2009 and then became the Pride assistant Head Coach in 2013. Claxton was promoted to Head Coach for Hofstra in 2021 and has been largely successful for his alma mater in that time.
Speedy Claxton and Hofstra have agreed to a multi-year extension, per the school. Claxton guided the Pride to the CAA regular-season title this season, has 44 wins in his two seasons at the helm.

As the Head Coach of the Hofstra Pride, Speedy Claxton has led the team to an overall record of 44-19 and a Colonial Athletic Association record of 29-7. This season they have won the Colonial Athletic Association regular season title. This means they will be the one-seed in the CAA Conference Tournament with a good chance of winning and making the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Claxton has been a major success for the program and is a good example of former players taking over their former program. Buidling a winner at the mid-major level can be hard, but Claxton is off to an amazing start.
