Jon Bernthal and Vera Farmiga are set to join a Sopranos prequel set in New Jersey. ‘The Many Saints of Newark’ is set in the 1960’s during the Newark riots.
The ensemble drama takes place when African-Americans and Italians of Newark were at each other’s throats, and when among the gangsters of each group, it became especially lethal. Bernthal and Farmiga will join actor Alessandro Nivola, who will play Dickey Moltisanti, the mentor of teenage Tony Soprano.
The 20th anniversary of the Sopranos was celebrated around the world just a couple of weeks ago and the announcement that we will be getting a prequel in which former cast members appear with multiple easter eggs is the cherry on top.
Adding Bernthal and Farmiga, who are well-versed actors has made the prequel even more intriguing. Bernthal has had lead roles in both the Walking Dead and Marvel’s ‘The Punisher’ while Farmiga was the star of ‘Bates Motel’.
Sopranos is about Tony Soprano, who juggles the problems of his fractious family with those of a “Family” of a different sort – the mob. He sees a therapist to deal with his professional and personal problems, which bring on panic attacks. He deals with personal and professional power struggles, affairs, violence, the threat of exposure and betrayal, and a whole bunch of people being whacked.
