As Skype nears its fifteenth anniversary, it is also preparing to add a few new features. Later this summer, Skype will add a feature that allows users to record calls. The new feature will be cloud based and allow users to access recorded calls across all Windows, Mac, iOS, Android and Linux operating systems. Officials from Skype described the updated by saying, “Call recording is completely cloud-based, and as soon as you start recording, everyone in the call is notified that the call is being recorded.” Skype also added, “Call recordings combine everyone’s video as well as any screens shared during the call.”
The ability to record calls is a major upgrade for Skype users who have been forced to rely on a variety of third party apps like Avaer to record their calls. In addition to creating the ability to record calls, Skype is also looking at adding content creator modes that would make it easier to integrate programs like Xsplit, Wirecast, and more. Also, Skype is looking to redesign its desktop client to create a more mobile like feel. If everything remains on schedule, Skype believes that the ability to record calls will be out as earlier as the end of the month. Hopefully, these changes will come in time as the pioneer mobile app turns fifteen later this year.
