The reigning Rookie of the Year, Michael Carter-Williams, is in a good place now with the Philadelphia 76ers. MCW seems to be the cornerstone to a quick rebuild in Philly with the twin towers down low to assist him in Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid. According to reports though, MCW was shopped during this season’s draft and may even still be getting shopped now.
Zack Lowe of Grantland.com reports the following:
They tried hard during the draft, but they couldn’t draw the trove they envisioned or guarantee that the player they wanted with an acquired pick would be there, per several league sources. Expect Philly to repeat the exercise. It’s not a shot at Carter-Williams, or even a signal that the Sixers are dying to trade him. He may well end up a long-term cog in Philly.
The team knows point guard is the most replaceable position in the league today, and it will seek out any deal that adds to its stockpile of high-value draft picks.
Coming off an impressive averages of 16.7 points per game, 6.2 rebounds per game and 6.3 assists
per game, the Rookie of the Year would figure that his place in Philly is secure. But the Sixers are trying everything to secure some talent for the future and stockpile draft picks as well.
MCW value is high, even after undergoing shoulder surgery this offseason. He has tremendous upside with his height, court vision and playmaking ability. After all, he’s one of three players to average 16/6/6 in a season, joining Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson.
