Sixers guard Markelle Fultz will miss the next 2-to-3 weeks and will be reevaluated at the end of that timetable to determine his approximate return date, the team announced on Sunday.
Fultz has missed the past 11 games due to a significant right shoulder injury. Fultz has dealt with various soreness and a scapular muscle imbalance that had caused him pain, but is said to be improving as time moves forward.
Fultz, according to the Sixers, will continue with physiotherapy with the goal of progressing to full basketball activity in the near future. His eventual return to the court will largely depend on how his shoulder responds to progressive basketball-related training and practices.
The Sixers drafted Fultz with their No. 1 overall selection in June’s NBA Draft, passing up on point guards such as Lonzo Ball, Dennis Smith Jr. and Frank Ntilikina.
The absence of Fultz has led to an increased role for Ben Simmons, who has played at an All-Star level for the Sixers this season. The Sixers hold hopes of sporting a young, promising core of Markelle Fultz, Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid for the rest of the season.
Fultz, 19, has appeared in four games on the season, averaging six points in 19 minutes per contest. He played college ball at Washington.
