
The Philadelphia 76ers held workouts Monday for draft prospects, ahead of the June 22nd NBA Draft. While the players in question have been in the limelight for some time, the real newsworthy material came from team president Bryan Colangelo. The Sixers hold the third overall pick in the draft, a spot that is essentially purgatory given the team’s needs. Keith Pompey of philly.com says that Colangelo has entertained the idea of trading the draft pick.
Philadelphia would like to take a point guard, but the two top options will likely be gone by the time the Sixers select. For this reason, the team may have to examine the opportunity to trade back. “I think that should we move or if there’s a transaction that comes out that gives us a chance to perhaps increase what impact No. 3 can have in terms of its return, I think we will look at it,” Colangelo said of a potential trade. “There’s some discussions that have been fairly interesting.” He added that the team is not determined to make a trade, but if the moment strikes, they may pull the trigger.
Most mock drafts have the Sixers selecting either Josh Jackson of Kansas or Jayson Tatum of Duke. Both players are good and have potential, but do not fill a dire need. The Sixers desire a point guard to run the offense, though the team previously said last year’s top pick Ben Simmons would fill that void.
