Showtime has ordered a ten-episode reboot of Dexter with lead actor Michael C. Hall. Longtime show runner Clyde Phillips is expected to return, but details regarding the plot and cast are being kept under wraps.
“Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago,” Showtime President Gary Levine said.
“We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series. Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world!”
The Showtime series originally ran from 2006 until 2013. In 2008, the show picked up a Peabody Award. Two years later, Hall earned a Golden Globe Award for his work. Also, John Lithgow earned an an Emmy and Golden Globe award for his guest star role in the show’s fourth season.
The Dexter reboot will return on Fall 2021.
