Welcome to the 2018 U.S. Midterm Elections where things get really spicy, really quickly. During a debate between two Ohio Senate candidates this week, things got heated when Republican candidate, Jim Renacci, accused Democrat Sherrod Brown of abusing his spouse. The matter apparently came up during the debate when the recent Kavanaugh proceedings came up in discussion. According to reports, Brown argued that Kavanaugh shouldn’t have been appointed to the Supreme Court because of his alleged past transgressions. Renacci then rebutted the argument by saying that using Brown’s logic, he shouldn’t be elected governor because of his own alleged past transgressions.
At the debate, Renacci stated, “If you’re going to set a standard of conduct for unsubstantiated claims, you better start setting a standard of conduct for substantiated claims.” He later added, “My opponent, Sherrod Brown, has volumes of records of substantiated claims of abuse.”
Brown later replied by saying, “My former wife asked you to stop attacking our family. She called these charges and your attacks despicable.” Brown’s ex-wife, Larke Reechie, said “Anyone who suggests he is not an honorable man is just wrong.”
Renacci and Brown will continue to butt heads until November 6th when citizens of Ohio will take to the polls to voice their opinions about the matter and much more.
