Shawn Marion is retiring at seasons end. And because of this I’ve decided to call him Mr. Versatile. Why? Because he is. He does it all! He doesn’t do it all at an A standard but he’s so well rounded it’s amazing. Mr Versatile let’s give him that as a send off.
The 36-year-old Marion, who plans to retire after the season, has been slowed by a strained hip for several weeks. He returned to Cleveland following a win Sunday at New York.
He will have tests performed Monday while the Cavs prepare to play the Pistons on Tuesday.
Marion’s playing time has dwindled in recent weeks, partly because of the injury. The four-time All-Star began the season in the starting lineup, but the addition of guards J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert has cut into his minutes.
Marion is averaging a career-low 4.9 points in 20 minutes per game. Although he hasn’t been a major contributor, Marion has been praised by Cavs coach David Blatt for his leadership.
The Cavs are fine without Marion. But it’s always good to have a player like Marion on your squad.
