NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal will be covering the expenses of Malachi Hemphill’s funeral, the teen who accidentally shot himself during an Instagram live story. Shaq is regarded for his community service and involvement in Atlanta.
O’Neal shared his condolences on this tragedy with the media.
“No mother should have to go through this. I can only imagine the pain that she and all of Malachi’s family must be feeling. I just wanted to do what I could to help them at such a terrible time.”
This incident occurred on Monday when thirteen-year-old Malachi Hemphill accidentally shot himself with a 9mm handgun. He passed away on Wednesday. Shaq was one of first of many to offer condolences.
Malachi’s godmother Shantirea Bankston spoke with WXIA about the loss of her godson.
“We just broke down and started crying because Malachi didn’t have any insurance. We wasn’t prepared to bury him this young. We didn’t have insurance for him. So to have that from Shaquille O’Neal it was a blessing and very touching, and we appreciate everything he do for the community.”
Shantirea is now urging parents to check their children’s rooms, book bags, and to just be more involved as a whole so that no one else has to experience anything similar.
