Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant were one of the most exciting duos in NBA History. That’s a given. And what was more great is how they did it. With the triangle, when used correctly, is one of the most clinical offenses.
Shaq knows how the triangle works and has noticed something most if us haven’t. You need superstars. Emphasis on the last “s”. He has said to NBC New York that you need two superstars in order to have a successful triangle offense.
“For the triangle to work, you need to have two superstars,’’ he said. “It’s been proven over time. Look at what Phil needed to win his championships in Chicago. Then look what he had in L.A., with me and Kobe. You have to have two superstars playing in the triangle to win championships.’’
There is a significant pattern there. They have two possible stars in Shumpert and Tim Hardaway Jr. But they’ve got some time until that happens. It’s Melo, and then it’s everybody else. It’s why I don’t think they’ll make the Playoffs and it’s why the great Shaquille O’Neal thinks (Let me rephrase that) knows that the Knicks need one more superstar in order to get somewhere in this league.
