Former Seattle Seahawks Linebacker Shaquem Griffin has announced he will from the NFL and will move “on to Plan A”. After spending his college career with the UCF Knights, Griffin and his brother, Shaquill Griffin, began their careers with the Seattle Seahawks. Shaquem, who had his left hand amputated at age four, became the first player with one hand to be drafted in the modern era of the NFL. The Seattle Seahawks drafted him in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. After leaving the Seahawks he signed with the Miami Dolphins but was waived before the 2021 season started.
Thank you to the people who helped me achieve this dream, but it’s time to move on from the game of football. @PlayersTribune https://t.co/dzPWRCvpZl

As a member of the Seattle Seahawks, Shaquem Griffin recorded 17 solo tackles, 25 total tackles, one pass defended, one tackle for a loss, one sack, and six quarterback hits in three seasons. In those three seasons, Griffin played 46 games and recorded one start. His determination as a football player was a big reason why he stayed on the Seattle Seahawks roster for three seasons.

Now that he is retired, Shaquem Griffin will focus on his Plan A. When he announced his retirement in the Players Tribune he elaborated further on what he meant by that: “Football was always Plan B. Plan A was to go to college, get an education and do something that would make a positive impact in the world.” He continued on to thank several people including his brother. While his NFL career may be over, there is plenty of positive impacts left for the former linebacker to provide moving forward.
