One of the great NBA drama sagas of the early 2000’s involved Los Angeles Lakers’ stars Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant. Similar to the interview between Isiah Thomas and Magic Johnson that shed some light on the beef they had, Shaq and Kobe will do a sit-down of their own. During an airing of “Inside The NBA” on TNT, Ernie Johnson confirmed that the discussion will air during NBA All-Star Weekend.
TNT showed a brief snippet of the interview on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Shaq and Kobe discussed activism in the NBA and how players can be involved. They reference the great Bill Russell, who in many ways paved the path for African-American players in The Assoication.
The beef between Kobe and Shaq has somehow persisted throughout all of these years, but the two have had plenty of public interaction for a while. Kobe congratulated Shaq on his Hall of Fame induction. The two also teamed up for an advertisement when Shaq was announced as the cover athlete for the NBA 2K18 video game. If the preview is any guidance, it seems this discussion between the two all-time greats will be about some matters that resonate beyond basketball.
