
For decades, the Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the most polarizing sports franchises in the state of California. With an astounding sixteen championships, the Lakers have been a household name, along with the Boston Celtics, in the NBA for a long time.
Although the franchise has had a more than lackluster showing the last couple of seasons, the Lakers continue to dominate the city of Los Angeles. Ironically, the most successful Los Angeles franchise in recent years has been the Clippers, who share the Staples Center with the Lakers.
In recent years, the Clippers have been trying to separate themselves from the Lakers’ shadow and opted to cover Laker banners during their home games. This was a controversial move implemented by head coach Doc Rivers, but he did so in order to build the Clippers brand.
