In a time capsule, the year 2021 will include at least two NBA players: Ben Simmon and Kyrie Irving. Unfortunately, for the two NBA All-Stars, most of the dialogue will come off in a negative light. With training camp well underway, both stars are making the news for the wrong reasons. Moreover, Irving dominates the headlines on a national scale, transcending sports.
Despite the star point guard coming off his best statistical season in three years, his reluctance to take a COVID vaccine is the story. The latest distraction derives from a Rollings Stones story by Matt Sullivan. Irving’s aunt alluded that her nephew would “find a way” around the vaccination.
New York and California laws mandate the vaccine to enter their respective sporting venues. If Irving doesn’t get the vaccine, he will miss at least half of the season due to not being able to play at home. Apparently, the sheer amount of games missed will cost the Brooklyn Nets games and chemistry.
On Thursday’s Tiki and Tierney radio show via CBS Sports Radio, the 4-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal claimed he would trade Kyrie Irving due to his reluctance to get vaccinated.
