Sometimes you’ve got to eat a turd sandwich, makes the ribeye taste better the next time.
That was a quote from Shane Battier earlier in the season talking about his benching.
And now it’s possible that he’s going to call it a career by seasons end.
I think I have one more year. My contract is up next year, and I’ll reassess where I am, but we’ll see. It’s a good possibility, a good possibility. We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it, and everything in this league is negotiable, but at that point I’ll be 36 and it may be time to do something else.
But there’s something that not many players say when they’re going to retire.
It would take an act of God to change it & that act of God hasn’t come.
So now people are wondering “what is the act of god he’s talking about?” Is it more money? Probably not, he’s not that kind of guy, a Miami three peat? Now that’s a possibility.
But when I think of the Miami three peat maybe being the “act of god” I also ask myself. What if he’s doing the Ray Lewis “Last ride” approach? If you cast your mind back to Baltimore’s Super Bowl season, Ray Lewis said he was going to retire. It galvanised the team and they did it. He did it, in the greatest fashion all athletes dream of.
To retire a champion.
It’s well documented that Miami’s past couple of months have been sketchy to say the least, maybe Battier is giving the team something to strive for once again. Because the “three peat” talk is obviously stressing the team out.
I’m just speculating as most of the talking heads will but its not a certainty that Battier will retire this season.
