The Shaft franchise is to be rebooted by New Line Cinema.
The studio has acquired the rights to the detective series and brought producer John Davis on board, TheWrap reports.
Davis has previously worked Chronicle as well as reboots for Predators and the upcoming The Man from UNCLE.
Shaft began as a novel, before being made into a film trilogy and spin-off television series starring Richard Roundtree as John Shaft.
The franchise was resurrected in 2000 in a movie starring Samuel L Jackson, who played Shaft’s nephew.
A comic book series based on the original character’s early years launched last year and was announced this week as a finalist for the first Dwayne McDuffie Award.
