The NBA Draft has come and gone and just as we thought, there were some trades laced into it throughout the night. Unfortunately the glitzy one, the Boston Celtics 3rd Pick was not traded away and for some reason they went for Jaylen Brown who I personally find overrated but I’m not a Scout, just 100% good ol opinion.
But instead, the trade of the night was made by Oklahoma City, trading away Serge Ibaka to the Orlando Magic and getting a bag of goodies including Victor Oladipo, Ersan Ilyasova and Domantas Sabonis. Sam Presti has done it again and according to CBS Sports, it was a no brainer since Serge was apparently unhappy in OKC.
But Ibaka had grown unhappy with his role, a person familiar with the situation told CBS Sports, and was considered likely to leave as an unrestricted free agent in 2017. Though Ibaka had not requested a trade, it was reasonable to expect that such a request could be on the horizon.
“I want to acknowledge Serge for his contributions to the ongoing legacy of the Thunder,” Thunder GM Sam Presti said. “He has been integral to our success and growth, has been a great community member and we wish him only the best.”
Now it’s interesting that Sam Presti said all of that, the classic send off press conference. But has he actually talked to him recently? That might not be the case as nobody has actually heard from Serge recently.
This trade is so one sided and hopefully Serge Ibaka is good. But unfortunately he might have to battle for another place in another roster, enter Vooch.
